About Sania

What was your experience of Further/Higher education like?

I was a first-generation FE and HE student in my family, as well as being the eldest sibling and cousin. I had no-one to turn to for advice apart from teachers and friends. Teachers told me to choose something I enjoy and something that would give me the skills I need for my profession. My teachers were above and beyond supportive, but we had no 'Support Services' that were dedicated to IAG, so a lot was left to us alone. HE (Undergraduate) was hard for personal reasons, but I loved my subject. I loved my campus and staff were amazing. But my Postgrad was FAB! I learnt so much, and because I lived in student accommodation this time I learnt so much about the world too.

What do you like most about your work as a Student Adviser?

As a Student Adviser, I speak to a variety of students, and this is what I love most. Hearing from you all, about your experiences, and giving you someone who will listen. It is something we never had in my day (all those years ago). Building connections with you all and supporting you through this chapter of your journey, to empower you, is most rewarding and is what I like most.

We share some serious matters but, we also have the chance to share a few laughs and I learn just as much from you, as I hope you do from me; and that is something powerful in itself. Having the space to talk, process, build resilience that supports you not just during your HE journeys, but in life itself.

I always say whatever is meant to be, will be; we should enjoy the ride. But remember, you are not alone. And as your Student Adviser, that is what I like to help you do. Seeing you succeed and thrive, through all the ups and downs of University life, is what I like most about my work as a Student Adviser.

What's a surprising or interesting fact about yourself?

It will surprise people to know that I enjoy a range of outdoor activities, such as Camping and Hiking. I hope to be able to do a Skydive in Dubai next year. This is a surprise because usually around the office I am known as 'Sparkle Princess' - because I quite enjoy my Disney movies, and you can usually find me wearing something sparkly/colourful, heels and dresses.
