Term 1: Wobble Week
Term 2: Beat the January Blues
Term 3: Exam Support Week: Take Time Out
Location: Various (please see individual listings below)
After the excitement and bustle of the Christmas season, it is completely natural to feel a little down throughout January. January, the month of wintry weather, dark mornings and (possibly) impossibly living up to our New Year's resolutions, collide to create the 'January Blues'. Typically, this can manifest itself as feelings of low mood, sadness, lack of motivation, tiredness and low energy. It is also the peak season for Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD), which can induce depressive episodes during the darker months.
'Beat the January Blues' is a series of events to help all students across campus avoid the January slump by boosting your mood and bringing people together. These events provide an opportunity to gather, giggle, and get outside.
- Monday 16th January - Embrace the Cosy Season
Pet a pooch!
Our much-loved therapy dogs will be making a return to campus to help you beat those January Blues! Take a moment to yourself away from laptops and lectures and pop down to the Wilkins Terrace between 12:00 and 14:00 to see our furry friends! There's no need to book, just come along any time!
Learn how to make candles, knit scarves, and practise gratitude through our taster sessions that encompass all things cosy.
You can now book onto our series of knitting, crocheting and candle making workshops below! All of these workshops will be held in the Haldane Room, Main Wilkins Building (directions will be emailed to those who have registered closer to the time). Please note that places on each workshop are limited, so sign up now to secure your spot! Free refreshments will be provided throughout the day to those who attend.
Knitting & crochet workshops
Join UCL Knitting Society to learn how to knit or crochet so you can produce your very own handknitted or crocheted goodies. A perfect winter warmer for you or a loved one. Knitting and crocheting have both been proven to occupy the same part of the brain as worrying, so take some time out to use your hands to make something, while taking a break from your studies. All equipment is provided, so just sign up, turn up and knit or crochet along!
Candle making workshops
Join UCL Lamorna Society to learn, step-by-step, how to make a scented candle from scratch. This is a great chance to learn how to create a candle and personalise it to your tastes, choosing the type of wax (soy/paraffin), colour (limitless) and scent of your candle. All materials will be included and members of the society will support you to create your own candle.

A week-long event calendar encouraging students to combat their exam stresses by 'Taking Time Out'.
We all know the pain of exam season and enduring stress that this can provoke. 'Take Time Out' encourages students to step away from the revision books temporarily and enjoy some 'me' time. Through a series of events organised by SSW, students can get creative, learn strategies to ease their stresses and have some light-hearted fun.
The full schedule for Exam Support Week: Take Time Out will be announced soon...
Location: Mezzanine Level, UCL Student Centre
Everyone experiences moments of feeling unsure about things or having a 'wobble'. It might be that you are finding university life difficult to adapt to, feel like you don't fit in, or you're finding it challenging to motivate yourself to learn because you are missing home. You might be struggling with British culture and find London an overwhelming city.
We want to normalise having a wobble: these happen all the time. Whatever you are feeling, the university is here to support you.
