Requesting Schengen Visa Letters with the Student Enquiries Centre

Information for when you want to travel to the Schengen area.
Schengen Visa letters are also commonly known as 'No-Objection' letters and are documents that can be used to support your visa application to countries that are part of the Schengen area. If you are travelling for tourism purposes, you can download a Schengen Visa letter directly from Portico or, the Student Enquiries Centre can help in producing these letters for you if you need a Schengen Visa letter for a Field Trip, Study Leave or to Study Away from UCL.
When obtaining a Schengen Visa letter, please note the following:
- As per standard visa regulations, Schengen Visa letters can only be produced for a maximum of 14 days per trip during term time.
- Schengen Visa Letters should not be requested more than 3 months in advance.
- If there is an outstanding tuition debt to be paid, you may not be able to download a Schengen Visa letter or obtain one from the Student Enquiries Centre. Please ensure the tuition fee debt is cleared before requesting this document.
- Schengen Visa Letters can only be addressed to UK embassies/consulates/visa application centres. The Student Enquiries Centre cannot address the letter to a non-UK embassy/consulate/visa application centre.
- Absences can be authorised for up to 14 days during term time. If you need more than 14 days for one trip, please raise this with your Academic Department.
- Schengen Visa Letters cannot be produced after your course completion date.
If you need to request a SChengen Visa letter for a Field Trip, Study Leave or to Study Away from UCL, please note the following:
- Allow up to 5 working days when requesting a Schengen Visa Letter. The Student Enquiries Centre may not be able to accommodate requests outside of this time frame.
- Complete the Schengen Visa form via askUCL, confirm that the Government Travel Guidance has been read and understood and upload supporting documents, where applicable. Please note that without these, a letter cannot be created.
