Where you can take an online assessment on campus

12 July 2022

Useful information if you don’t have at-home access to the technology or study space needed to sit an online assessment during the Assessment Period.

student at computer

There are over 3,000 students sitting an assessment at any one time and thousands more will be revising throughout the assessment period, so you can expect campus study spaces to be busy! If you can, we strongly recommend setting yourself up in a quiet place in your home or accommodation.

Of course, not everyone has the necessary technology or quiet space to take an online assessment at home. If you need a computer or a dedicated space to sit your online assessment, keep reading…

Study spaces

UCL has over 5,300 study spaces available in libraries across campus. Library Services are offering 24/7 opening over summer in the Student Centre. The Science Library will be open 24 hours from 08:45 on Mondays until 21:00 on Saturdays. Check opening hours for all locations on the Opening Hours webpage.

Advanced booking is not required for most libraries and study spaces but you can reserve a space if you wish. Individual study spaces can be booked for 7 hours per day.

To avoid any last-minute stress, we strongly advise you to complete the three practice assessments in AssessmentUCL now, using the device and space you plan to use on assessment day.

Book a cluster room PC

Approximately 60 PC spaces are reserved in the Christopher Ingold Building (G20) for students who need a space to sit an online assessment.

These spaces are limited and cannot be guaranteed so we advise you to only use them if you do not have a suitable alternative at or nearby your home

You must only make a booking for the date and time of an assessment listed in the Central Assessment Timetable for Late Summer Assessment period.

Also check out UCL student Helena Bryant’s top recommendations for study spaces on or around UCL campus.

We cannot guarantee a spot on campus so if you have not booked a space, we advise you to arrive early enough to find another venue if your intended space is full.

A small number of departments organising local assessments may also make study spaces/computer rooms available to students needing a space to sit an assessment. These spaces are also limited and will have different booking/usage guidelines. Consult your faculty or departmental communications for further information.

Reserve a computer

Apply for a laptop loan

Laptop loans are available for use by students across numerous library sites.

This year, as well as our standard laptop loans, UK/EU undergraduate students from low income households can apply to have a laptop loaned to them for their entire period of study at UCL. Students who do not qualify for the long-term loan may be eligible for a shorter term loan service.

See UCL laptop loans for students for full details.

    Remember...

Wherever you set up for your assessments, remember you are responsible for:

    • checking in advance that you have a stable internet connection;
    • testing that your technology and browsers are compatible with the assessment platform; and
    • arriving and setting up in good time

To avoid any last-minute stress, we strongly advise you to complete a practice assessment in AssessmentUCL now, using the device and space you plan to use on assessment day. Read our 'Checklist for Success' for other important steps you should take before the Central Assessment Period.
