The course is divided into four sections, each with short presentations, activities, and links to help you prepare for life and study at UCL.
Topics are clearly labelled so you can navigate easily, and each section ends with a set of useful resources for further reading.
Section 1: Welcome to UCL and Getting Started!
- How to use this course and what you’ll get from it.
- International Student Orientation events you can join before and after arrival.

Section 2: Life in London and the UK
- How to get around London and travel across the UK.
- Healthcare in the UK, including a step by step guide for registering with a GP.
- Banking in the UK — how to open an account and manage your money safely.
- Finding and living in accommodation in London or at UCL.
- Your guide to staying safe during your time in the UK.
- Links to useful resources for living in London.
Section 3: Academic Life at UCL
- Understanding UK academic culture and how it may differ from your previous experiences.
- Teaching and learning formats at UCL, including how to make the most of lectures, seminars, and online tools.
- How assessments work at UCL, plus where to find academic skills and language support.
- Academic adjustments — what they are, who can access them, and how to apply.
- Key resources to help you succeed academically.
Section 4: Social Life and Support Resources at UCL
- Career services and how to connect with UCL alumni.
- Students’ Union UCL — clubs, societies, and student communities.
- Managing your money effectively while at university.
- Building a culture of wellbeing, inclusiveness, and respect.
- Links to further resources for your social and personal life at UCL.
You may find that some topics are not relevant to you — for example, you may already have a UK bank account. That’s not a problem — simply skip those parts.
As you move through the course, you can use the "Mark as done" button to track your progress.
