How to obtain your BRP

Once you enter the UK you will be required to collect your full Student visa, called a Biometric Residence Permit (BRP).

On this page you will find information about:

Collecting your BRP from UCL

If you have used UCL’s BRP Alternative Collection Location code (2HE484) in your visa application, this means that your BRP will be sent directly to the UCL and that you will be able to collect it from us.

Once your BRP has arrived at UCL, we will contact you directly with information on how to collect it, including what you need to bring with you.

If you have asked for your dependant(s) BRP(s) to be sent to UCL, please contact the Student Immigration Compliance Team so we can arrange for the BRP(s) to be sent you.

If you decided not to use UCL’s BRP Alternative Collection Location code, your BRP will be sent to the Post Office nearest to your UK address and details of this will be provided on your UKVI decision letter.  Please see further information below.

If you have any questions, please contact the Student Immigration Compliance Team via askUCL.

Collecting your BRP from the Post Office

In order to collect your BRP from the Post Office, you must bring with you:

  • Your passport
  • Your UKVI decision letter which accompanied your 30 day travel visa
  • Your UCL student number
  • Your flight details which show when you entered the UK. This is only required if you are a national of Australia, Canada, Japan, New Zealand, Singapore, South Korea or the USA. Further information can be found here.

If you are applying for a Student visa from overseas, and have a question about BRP collection, please contact the Student Immigration Compliance Team.

In-country applicants and Student visa BRP Collection

If you have applied for your visa from within the UK, please ensure that you arrange for your BRP to be sent your UK address.
