Options and ideas for PGT students to add an experience abroad to their studies at UCL.
PGT students at UCL have the chance to add an international experience overseas during their degree programme. Below are some options that PGT students can explore, however it is important to read through each schemes' application and eligibility criteria carefully.
Summer Tuition Fee Free Scheme
Sometimes there are summer schools through this scheme that are open to PGT students. In 2025 the Zurich University of Teacher Education is open to PGT students from the Institute of Education. More information is on the Summer Tuition Fee Free Scheme webpage.
Summer Schools Abroad
A range of universities that UCL partner with through term-time exchange also host their own summer schools. Each university has their own admissions criteria, so students to should through each summer school's website. More information is on the Summer Schools Abroad webpage. If students find a summer school abroad that is not listed, they can still apply for that opportunity and apply for financial support through the Global Experience Bursary.
Short-Term Research
Some institutions have specific short-term research opportunities open to UG and PGT students, which are published on the Short-Term Reserach Abroad webpage. If students secure their own research abroad, indepenedently e.g. by reaching out to an academic at a university they wish to study at, they can still pursue that opportunity and apply for financial support through the Global Experience Bursary.
International Volunteering

Funding
