When to pay your fees

Autumn starters must pay at least one third of your fee amount before 31 October, or you may be prevented from enrolling or accessing academic services.

This guidance explains when you need to pay your fees if you are self-funded and the consequences of non-payment.

Instalment deadlines for Modular students enrolling in autumn

If you are a modular student enrolling in the autumn term you should pay the first instalment when the fees for your module selection appear on your Portico account. The remaining two instalments should be paid by the deadlines indicated above.

Instalment deadlines for self-funded students enrolling in March/April

If you are self-funding all or part of your studies, you must ensure that you pay your full fees for the year before or at enrolment. There are no instalments available for students enrolling in March/April.

Late and Non-Payment of Fees

Students are required to settle their tuition fee account promptly and in line with the payment deadlines stated on Portico. Any enquiries, concerns or issues related to fee levels or the ability to meet payment deadlines should be raised with the fees office at the earliest opportunity.

Late payment of tuition fees will result in the application of a debt flag to the relevant student account on Portico. It should be noted that this will prevent a student from completing the enrolment process.

Continued non-payment of overdue tuition fees will result in the application of academic sanctions, which may include the withdrawal of specific services and facilities. In exceptional cases an extension to a tuition fee payment deadline may be facilitated.

Time limited enrolment

If you are enrolling in autumn and do not pay your first instalment, or provide evidence of sponsorship, before or during enrolment, you will be given 'Time Limited Enrolment' (TLE) status. This expires on the 31 October each year and it is essential that you pay one third of your fee liability, or provide evidence of sponsorship, by this date. Once payment or proof of sponsorship has been received this status will be changed to 'Enrolled’. Failure to complete payment by this date will lead to a loss of services/facilities and, ultimately, the suspension of your registration. You should also be aware that if you are enrolled as TLE, you will not receive any UCL or Student Loan Company loans, bursaries or studentship payments.

If you are enrolling on or after 1 January you must pay 50% of your tuition fee, charged from your start date until the end of that academic year, in order to complete the enrolment process. The second instalment is due by 2 May.

All information relating to the cost of your programme can be found on the published Fee Schedules or your Portico account.
