Alchemy 2021

Alchemy 2021 cover
Alchemy is the annual newsletter of UCL Department of Science and Technology Studies (STS). Its goal is to present a taste for the breadth and depth of activity in our community. Alchemy normally is published each year in the break between academic sessions. This issue of Alchemy includes graduate profiles, stories about activities by Master’s and PhD students, as well as staff news.

Alchemy 2021 is special. Its content has been written mostly by STS students as part of a new studentship programme, the STS NewsRoom. For two months, Chelsea Tripp, Jasmine Chakravarty, Lujia Zhang, Alex Hancock, Odile Lehnen, and Franziska Link have worked on the stories you'll read. They've developed the ideas, interviewed key people, written, and re-written. These budding journalists have been a joy to work with, and we hope you enjoy the result. Students in the STSNewsRoom also created episodes that will be part of Series 2 of WeAreSTS, the department’s podcast.

Alchemy’s editors were Victoria Mounsey, Dr Jean-Baptiste Gouyon, and Professor Joe Cain. The STS NewsRoom benefited from the considerable talents and experience of STS PhD student, Gemma Milne. Studentships were funded by UCL Department of Science and Technology Studies (STS).

Alchemy is available as a digitial download. For a print copy, simply email us. Also email us if you have an idea for a story of next year's Alchemy 2022.
