About the Speaker

Paul Franklin

Visual Effects

Paul Franklin has a 30-plus-year career in digital visual effects and animation, including a 10-year-long collaboration with director Christopher Nolan – starting with Batman Begins and including the Oscar-winning visual effects work he designed for Inception and Interstellar. Paul will mainly discuss his experience working closely with scientist advisor Kip Thorne on Interstellar. Interstellar is a “sci-fi” film with a specific focus on showing accurate “science” throughout. This was fundamentally achieved using detailed and cohesive visual effects throughout. Interstellar was widely regarded as the “most” accurate science fiction blockbuster to date. Paul won both an Academy Award and BAFTA for Best Visual Effects for this work.
