Investigating the Role of Energy Systems in Sustainable Development - STEaPP Submission
The International Development Committee launched an open call for potential topics of inquiry in the area of international relief and development. This proposal suggests that the International Development Committee (IDC) investigate the role of energy systems in sustainable development, based on research from UCL's Department of Science, Technology, Engineering and Public Policy (STEaPP). The focus is on how energy infrastructure can support sustainable development goals (SDGs), especially in low-income countries, and the actions the UK Government can take to enhance its international aid functions.

Soft power: a strategy for UK success?
This inquiry will explore the extent and effectiveness of the UK’s soft power in what is an increasingly challenging global environment. The inquiry will consider the UK’s unique soft power strengths and ask how the UK might best measure and actualise the benefits it accrues from its soft power. As a Department that mobilises science, technology, engineering and public policy expertise, STEaPP is uniquely positioned to provide valuable insights into how the UK’s soft power can be realised through science diplomacy and excellence in science, innovation and technology.
