REF 2021 results

UCL Mathematics and UCL Statistical Science ranked 8th nationally for research power in REF 2021. The UCL REF 2021 submission for Mathematics has been ranked 5th on 4*+3*. Their overall GPA has increased from 3.08 to 3.40, impact ranking has increased from 31st to 18th and they are ranked 8th nationally for research power. The UCL REF submission for mathematics is a joint submission from UCL Mathematics and UCL Statistical Sciences. You can read some of the submitted case studies on our website.

 

Weather and climate prediction

UCL has partnered with the Met Office to advance the science of weather and climate prediction. This collaboration includes academics from the Department of Statistical Science through the Met Office Academic Partnership (MOAP), and recent research shows how machine learning could help us design more efficient offshore wind farms.

Professor Gianluca Baio talks about how health technology assessment (HTA) is a crucial aspect of medical research and is applied in several jurisdictions, including the UK, to legislate on whether - once they have been approved for marketing - interventions should be directly funded by the healthcare provider, e.g. through reimbursement schemes.
