Dr Serge Guillas awarded ESRC-DFID-NERC funding for tsunami project
23 June 2015
The Economic and Social Research Council (ESRC), the Department for International Development (DFID) and the Natural Environment Research Council (NERC) have approved funding for a project led by Dr Serge Guillas on the topic of Big Data for Resilience: realising the benefits for developing countries.
Dr Guillas, along with co-applicants Professor Debasish Roy and Professor Kusala Rajendran from IISc-Bangalore in India have received funding for a prototype project on Big Data for Tsunami Hazard Warnings in India. This project (and concurrent investigations as part of a wider collaboration between UCL and IISC-Bangalore) will focus on the quantification of uncertainties in tsunami warnings, the value of information from observations to reduce these uncertainties, and the determination and optimisation of the computational complexity of tsunami risk assessments.
