Dr Gareth Peters selected to lead working group on Sound Guidance Practice papers for professional industry members of the Institute of Operational Risk

Dr Gareth Peters has been selected by the council and directors of the Institute of Operational Risk (IOR) to lead the working group for the development of the Sound Practice Guidance papers. The IOR is a global professional risk organisation with chapters throughout the UK, Europe, Hong Kong and Africa.

The stated mission of the IOR is to promote the development and discipline of Operational Risk and to foster and maintain investigations and research into the best means and methods of developing and applying the discipline and to encourage, increase, disseminate and promote knowledge, education and training and the exchange of information and ideas.

The role Dr Peters will take on will be developing and enhancing the Sound Practice Guide (SPG). These sound practice guidance papers are designed to assist companies implement the various components that make up a robust risk management framework. The current SPG papers include aspects of:

  • Implementation of Operational Risk Management Frameworks
  • Key Risk Indicators
  • Governance
  • Loss Data
  • Control Self Assessments for Risk in Firms
  • Scenario Modelling and Stress Testing
  • Risk Culture and Appetite
  • External Loss Events
  • Risk Categorization
