Staff update: new recruits for the Department of Statistical Science

18 November 2024

Welcome to Dr Anna Calissano and Dr Louis Sharrock, who will be joining us as Lecturers in Statistics.

Dr Anna Calissano
Anna Calissano studied mathematical engineering at Politecnico di Milano in Italy and received her Ph.D. in collaboration with DTU in Denmark under the supervision of Prof. Aasa Feragen and Prof. Simone Vantini. She worked as a postdoctoral researcher at INRIA with Xavier Pennec and she is currently a Chapman Fellow at Imperial College London. Her research is at the intersection between geometry and statistics and focuses on defining statistical methods for the analysis of sets of graphs and networks. Her methods have been applied to landscape designing, public transport modelling, and the analysis of medical images.

Dr Louis Sharrock

Louis Sharrock is currently a Senior Postdoctoral Research Associate in Statistical Machine Learning in the School of Mathematical Sciences at Lancaster University. He received his PhD in Statistics from Imperial College London in 2022, supervised by Dr Nikolas Kantas. He also holds an MSc in Statistics from Imperial College London, and an MA in Mathematics from the University of Cambridge.

His research interests lie at the intersection of computational statistics, probabilistic machine learning, and stochastic optimisation. His current work focuses on the development of tuning-free algorithms for scalable inference and learning; the design and analysis of efficient methods for parameter estimation in interacting particle systems; the application of score-based diffusion models to simulation-based inference; and the connections between optimisation and sampling.
