Opt out of my UCL pension

All permanent members of staff are automatically enrolled into UCL’s pension scheme. This task describes how you can opt out. You can re-join at any time.

Before you start

You will need to know which pension scheme you belong to. To find out, you can either check your payslip or email pensions@ucl.ac.uk.

You should be aware that withdrawal from a pension scheme will result in the loss of tax relief contributions made by you and UCL. Consult the scheme websites for further information on pension scheme benefits.

You need to complete the appropriate pension scheme opt out form to withdraw from the scheme. 

Universities Superannuation Scheme (USS)

  • If you are within three months of joining the scheme, complete the Opt-Out form. If you have been a member for more than three months, complete the Normal Withdrawal form.

Superannuation Arrangements of the University of London (SAUL)

National Health Service Pension Scheme (NHSPS) 

Return completed forms to pensions@ucl.ac.uk.
