The Writing Series: Healthy Writing habits (OD.RP.7375) 
Course Description:

Do you struggle when it comes to academic writing? Do you tend to experience perfectionism, procrastination and writer?s block?

This workshop will consider what makes academic writing so unique while also uncovering the cyclical nature of the writing process as a set of distinct phases. This includes getting into the right space, making the most of your writing time and detaching from your project.

We will learn how specific challenges pertain to particular phases of the writing process. The final part of the workshop will consider techniques to help participants overcome writing challenges. You will come away from the workshop with a better understanding of the underlying causes of your own stumbling blocks and specific tools to move forward.

Dr Serena Sharma has spent two decades in higher education. In addition to her academic qualifications, Serena has studied wellbeing for over a decade and is the founder of AcademEase, an organisation dedicated to enhancing wellness in higher education.


Objectives:
This session will cover: ? Common stumbling blocks in the writing process and why they occur ? Factors which make academic writing unique ? The cyclical nature of the writing process ? Tools and strategies for overcoming writing challenges By the end of this course you will be able to: ? Identify your own stumbling blocks when it comes to academic writing ? Understand how the writing process works and how to make the most of your writing time ? Determine how to get into the right space for writing and how to detach from your project ? Draw upon a range of techniques to overcome stumbling blocks
