Master the basics of R and RStudio. This course is an excellent introduction if you need to get up and running with data analysis fast or as a prelude to a more detailed and advanced study of R.

This course is designed to help you to use R and R-studio to import, manipulate, describe and analyse categorical and continuous data and to produce plots and tables to support analysis.

There will be two, three-hour in-person sessions on UCL Bloomsbury Campus.

PREREQUISITES:

You should have a good understanding of statistical concepts. No prior experience with R is required, but experience using a spreadsheet application such as Excel would be an advantage.

Once you have enrolled, please check that you have received a confirmation email from MyLearning. You will also receive an email with location details at least one day before the session.

Please arrive 10 - 15 minutes prior to the start of the course to allow time for logging in and downloading resources.

At the end of this course you will be able to:

• Import data from plain text files
• Create bar and pie charts for categorical variables
• Create histograms and box plots for numeric variables
• Calculate frequencies and descriptive statistics
• Creating crosstabs for categorical variables
• Transform variables
• Code missing data
• Analyse a dataset by subgroups
• Create scatterplots
• Calculate correlations
• Carry simple linear regressions
• Build ANOVA and multiple regression models

You will also learn the basics of R scripting and how to organise R projects.
