Safety Responsibilities and Support - self-paced
Course Description:

The Safety responsibilities and support course is one of six courses in the Safety Risk Management programme.

The course aims to help UCL managers, Principal Investigators (PIs) and supervisors manage health and safety of the people whose work activities fall within their areas of responsibilities.

It provides fundamental information and resources that helps the manager understand the various roles and responsibilities in managing and supporting the management of health and safety within their department and UCL as an organisation. The course contains three sections:
  1. A brief introduction to the course leading to three core learning sections and related topics with information that would help you define and set clear roles and responsibilities manage your team members with safety related roles and responsibilities.

    The information is grouped to help you consider your understanding of the subject, whether you need and/or can take an action and, whether it is something that you could do on your own to start with or if it would be better shared with your staff/team.

  2. Resource banks containing the relevant tool(s), guidance, information, and advice to help you gather and/or carry out tasks that would help you manage the risk of work activities within your responsibilities.

  3. A ten-question multiple-choice quiz at the end of the course. You must achieve a score of 80% or more to pass the course.
You can complete the course at your own pace, picking up where you have left off, however, please remember to save the course before you exit.

Objectives:

Learners will:

  • understand the health and safety responsibilities of managers.

  • be aware of various responsible people/job roles within the department and/or the team, of specific safety roles and their responsibilities, for example, Fire Evacuation Marshals.

  • be aware that having appointed staff to a specific safety role, the holder's appointment must be recorded in the Responsible Person Register in riskNET.

  • understand the key function of the UCL Health and Safety Committee.
  • Understand the function of the departmental health and safety committees.

Intended Audience:
All UCL staff in a role that has management responsibilities, such as, managers, Principal Investigators, supervisors.
