Safe Handling of Unsealed Radioactive Sources
Course Description:
This instructor-led course is compulsory for anyone who wants to work with unsealed radioactive material at UCL. It will provide you with a basic understanding of how to work safely with unsealed radioactive material at UCL.


If you have completed the Prerequisite course "Principles of Radiation Safety" but are having difficulty booking this training course, please email safetytraining@ucl.ac.uk with a copy of your completion certificate.


Course Prerequisite:

You must complete the Principles of Radiation Safety eLearning before you can enrol on the course.


You will need to apply knowledge from the prerequisite eLearning so it may be beneficial to refresh the Principles of Radiation Safety eLearning if there is a long gap between completing it and attending this training course. This will ensure that you feel comfortable and confident with the subject matter.

Objectives:

The course covers the following topics.

  • Radiation risks.
  • Contamination monitoring.
  • Identify the hazards associated with manual handling.
  • Protection.
  • Good laboratory practice.
  • Dealing with incidents and emergencies.

Intended Audience:
Anyone intending to work with unsealed radioactive material at UCL.
