Carriage of Diagnostic & Infectious Substances by Air
Course Description:

We are pleased to offer you this full day, face-to-face Instructior Led course in Carriage of Diagnostic and Infectious Substances by Air. Learners are required to refresh their training every two years.

At the end of the course you will have learnt how biological materials must be classified, prepared, packaged and labelled for safe transport by air.


This course is fully approved by the Civil Aviation Authority and concludes with an open book validation. Successful candidates receive a certificate of competence valid for two years, after which you must revalidate your qualification.

Carriage of diagnostic and infectious substances by air training
Objectives:

The course will cover the following:

  • Introduction to the regulations governing the shipment of diagnostic and infectious substances by air
  • The legislative framework
  • UN numbers and proper shipping names
  • Classification - infectious substances, biological products, GMOs and diagnostic/clinical specimens
  • Packaging requirements - Category A and Category B plus dry ice
  • Labeling and marking
  • Documentation

UCL staff who are specifically responsible for shipping infectious and diagnostic substances by air
