An arguably world-beating number of discoveries and inventions that changed the face of medicine have emanated from Bloomsbury and Fitzrovia, and its alumni. Anaesthesia, antisepsis, angina, antibiotics, chemotherapy, resuscitation fluids, immune tolerance, autoimmune diseases, hormones, peristalsis, electrocardiography, statistics etc etc. Adding in a few tales of derring-do and some not-so-salubrious stories will hopefully provide an entertaining half-hour diversion as Mervyn Singer takes us on a condensed tour (there would be more than enough to fill an afternoon!) of famous and infamous local glitterati.
