Ruth will talk about the varied geology of UCL buildings and monuments. The earliest buildings in UCL were first erected in the 1820s and there has been a continuous history of building ever since. The most important building material on campus is Portland Stone, but a wealth of igneous, metamorphic and sedimentary rocks can be observed here, stones that tell a social as well as an architectural history.
