Prerequisites: Open to students who have passed Russian A or reached an equivalent level. Placement test required if Russian A was taken elsewhere or approval by the Off-Track Coordinator

Module Outline

The module continues from Russian A, following the same textbook “Beginner’s Russian” and covers verbal aspect, more grammatical case endings (singular and plural), expands vocabulary to about 1200 words, develops such spoken and written topics as “Health”, “Food and Eating”, “Friendship”, ”Family life” etc.. Russian news video clips, Russian cartoons and popular songs supplement the textbook. Equal emphasis is paid to speaking, writing, reading, and listening skills. There are regular tests and students are expected to use the on-line workbook to reinforce their knowledge.

At the end of the module you should have fulfilled the following aims and objectives

The aim of the course is to enable students to function in Russian at a basic everyday level (through the development of basic vocabulary, grammar, morphology, syntax and phonetics).

On successful completion of the course students should be able to communicate in and understand straightforward Russian in a number of everyday situations. The course will also develop language learning skills, including autonomous learning and ways of approaching authentic texts, as well as a number of transferable skills.

Indicative Texts

Course materials will include resources authored by the teacher, as well as the textbook Beginner’s Russian with Online Workbook (Anna Kudyma, Frank Miller, Olga Kagan).
