Research: Paul’s research focusses upon why leaders in non-democratic regimes use constitutional amendment to address threats to the longevity of their leadership. As a practising lawyer, Paul seeks to blend an expertise in jurisprudence, political science and area studies in order to answer this question by reference to three key case studies in the post-Soviet space: Russia, Belarus and Armenia.
