SSEES Library supports student-curated exhibition celebrating Central Europe’s multilingual heritage
22 May 2025

The SSEES Library was proud to support the 'West and All That It Holds', a student-curated exhibition inspired by the Hungarian literary journal Nyugat (1908–1941). Drawing on original materials from the Library’s extensive Hungarian collection, the project grew out of object-based learning session led by Dr Eszter Tarsoly, with the support of Area Liaison Librarian Zuzana Pinčíková.
Students explored Nyugat as a lens into the cultural and political debates of early 20th-century Hungary, then reimagined its richly illustrated pages through multilingual translations and creative reinterpretations. The Library’s rare holdings provided essential primary sources for this engagement with Central Europe’s literary and artistic heritage.
The exhibition ran from 13 March to 30 April 2025, with a well-attended opening and curators’ talk on 19 March. We congratulate all the students involved and look forward to supporting more collaborative and creative research using our collections.
