SSEES Welcomes Bracewell Scholar for Term 2
22 January 2025
We are delighted to welcome Erzsébet Árvay, winner of the 2024-25 Bracewell Scholarship.

Postgraduate Researcher Erzsébet Árvay from Corvinus University Budapest is visiting SSEES from 13 January to 28 March 2025.
Erzsébet is a researcher specialising in Cold War émigré politics, with her current project focusing on Hungarian émigré politics between 1949 and 1989. Her research examines how the Hungarian People’s Republic tried to influence its émigré communities in Western countries. Additionally, she explores the cooperation among Soviet Bloc countries in their efforts to engage with and influence their émigrés abroad.
She says: "The Bracewell Scholarship has made it possible for me to spend a term at UCL, providing access to a wide range of sources. During my time at SSEES, I aim to expand my academic network and explore the institution’s exceptional collections. I am particularly interested in the invaluable collections of the SSEES Archive, which holds documents on Hungarian and other Eastern European émigrés. I am deeply grateful for this opportunity and for the warm welcome I have received."
