Congratulations to SSEES PhD candidate Serian Carlyle on winning the Lindsey Hughes Bursary!

Serian Carlyle has been awarded the Lindsey Hughes Bursary, a scholarship awarded to SSEES PhD students researching Russian History or Culture. Serian is on her final PhD stages. Her research investigates the use of genre in films for young people made at the Gor’kii Central Film Studio under the Brezhnev leadership in the Soviet Union (1963-1982).

She says: "I'm very grateful to SSEES to receive the Lindsey Hughes Bursary. I have recently returned from maternity leave, into the final stages of my PhD. As a PhD student, I am not eligible to receive the government-subsidised nursery hours, so this will pay for childcare to allow me to complete my thesis. I am looking forward to getting back into it all!"
