Celebrating Dr Peter Duncan's retirement

21 April 2022

Dr Pete Duncan

Dr Peter (Pete) Duncan officially retired last year but SSEES friends and colleagues were delighted to be able to get together in person at UCL on 21 April to celebrate. Current SSEES Director, Diane P. Koenker presented Dr Duncan with gifts and messages from colleagues, and Professor Geoffrey Hosking gave a speech acknowledging Pete's longstanding contributions to SSEES.

Pete joined SSEES in 1988, before the School merged to become part of UCL in 1999. He served as Head of Department for social sciences at SSEES; instigated the Soviet Press Group (now Post-Soviet Press Group); overseen 23 PhD students to completion and has been a source of expertise on Russian politics and foreign policy, to name a few of his achievements. For those who have worked or studied with him, he is known for his warmth, humour and colegiality.  He will very much remain part of the SSEES community, appearing at events and with his research, but also in his role as Co-president of the SSEES Alumni Association.

We wish Dr Duncan a long and happy retirement!
