How Great Battles are Remembered

Richard Butterwick-Pawlikowski together with Robert Frost and Darius Staliūnas took part in a lively public discussion on ‘The great battles of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania and how they have been remembered’. 

Hosted by the Lithuanian Embassy on 27 February, the panellists explored the different ways in which Lithuanian, Belarusian, Ukrainian, Polish, German and Russian memories of these conflicts have developed and also the ways in which the memory of medieval 
battles can actually help, rather than hinder causes of national reconciliation.

Earlier, on 20 February Richard delivered a lecture in Polish on ‘Sophie, or Catherine II’ as part of a cycle on the memoirs of King Stanisław August Poniatowski and their heroes and heroines, at the Royal Łazienki Museum in Warsaw.  He also lectured in the same series on the English and England in the king’s memoirs.
