Hungarian President visits

HE President Pál Schmitt with IMESS and research students at SSEES…

SSEES hosted a visit to UCL by the then Hungarian President, HE Pál Schmitt, who was in London touring European capitals as Hungary took over the presidency of the European Union.

At a meeting with then President & Provost Malcolm Grant, the President said that one of his key missions as President was to promote the Hungarian language and to support lifelong learning.

The meeting was attended by a number of UCL members including then Vice-Provost Professor Michael Worton, who discussed the theme of language skills and told the President about UCL's new policy for all students joining the university to have a language GCSE, while then Director Robin Aizlewood discussed how Hungarian studies at UCL was flourishing.
