Marketa Nyklova - Comparative Business Economics MA

Student Ambassador
Growing up in the Czech Republic naturally made me intrigued to find out more about the history and its impact on the current situation across countries of the former Soviet bloc and Eastern Europe in general. Therefore, when I found out that UCL SSEES offers an Economics programme I knew I had to apply.
I chose Comparative Business Economics MA. On this course, there are many international students. So not only, I am gaining much knowledge from my course, but I also get to know people from all around the world. And who would not want to have friends everywhere. This programme is in line with my objectives mainly due to the interconnection of macroeconomic and microeconomic perspectives on the region of my interest, taking into account its position within a wider economic framework.
Online studying can sometimes be challenging, but professors and all staff are exceptionally supportive, and UCL pays special attention to students’ mental health. The easiest way to meet people (even though only online) and do things that you are interested in is to join clubs and societies. I have joined the Consulting Society that organises online events with very interesting companies. I have also joined the Czech and Slovak Society that for example held an Online Speed Friending event to help new students to find friends at UCL.
