History, Politics, Economics BA Structure

Compulsory and Elective Modules for the History, Politics and Economics BA. All students must take 120 credits in each year of study

Year One

Compulsory Courses (90 credits)

SEHI0003 Frontiers of History

SESS0016 - Understanding Politics I: The Big Questions in Contemporary Europe

SESS0017 - Understanding Politics II: How Politics Works

SESS0007 - Introduction to Microeconomics

SESS0008 - Introduction to Macroeconomics

Optional Courses; select from a list of HPE options, including languages (30 credits)

Students interested in pursuing further economics courses in their second and third years are strongly encouraged to take the 0-credit module Mathematics for Economists in the Fall Semester 2019

Year 2

All students, regardless of track must take one of the following core courses (30 credits):

SESS0027 - The History of European Political Ideas  

SESS0024 - Economic History and Ideas

All students can take up to 30 credits of HPE electives, from SSEES options, including a language, or from another UCL department. 

History and Politics Track

At least 30 credits from the following History courses:

HIST0470 - Crown Church and Estates in Central Europe, 1500-1700

SEHI0644- The Rise and Fall of Yugoslavia

HIST0472 - Successors to the Habsburgs: Central Europe, 1914-1945

HIST0474 - The Fall and the Rise of the Polish Nation, 1648-1921

HIST0476- Media, Culture and Society in the Soviet Union from Stalin to 1991

Compulsory Politics course (15 credits)

SESS0033 - Comparative Political Analysis

Plus one optional Politics course from (15 credits) :

SESS0035 - Post-Soviet Politics and Society 

SESS0030- Russian Politics and Society

SESS0034 - Politics and Societies of Southeast Europe

SESS0005 - Baltic Politics and Society

History and Economics Track
Students interested in pursuing further economics courses in their second and third years are strongly encouraged to take the 0-credit module Mathematics for Economists in the Fall Semester 2019 during Year 1

At least 30 credits from the following History courses:

 

HIST0470 - Crown Church and Estates in Central Europe, 1500-1700

Dissertation (in one chosen discipline which has been studied in Year 2) (30 credits)

30 credits of Optional courses related to Dissertation discipline

30 credits of HPE electives, from SSEES options, including a language, or from another UCL department.
