Georgiana Neculoiu - BA Politics, Sociology and East European Studies, Year 3

Student Ambassador
As a Romanian student of Politics, Sociology, and East European Studies, this programme provided me with the opportunity to immerse myself in social sciences theory, while also bringing it closer to home due to its inherent interlink with the region I come from. I arrived at UCL with close to no theoretical knowledge on politics, sociology, or international relations. Yet thanks to the comprehensive and fascinating modules here at SSEES I was able to quicky and properly familiarise myself with these elements, while immersing myself in the discovery of the broader culture of the region through the culture modules I have taken. My learning experience has been complemented by the diversity of activities at SSEES, both formal and informal, varying from academic panel talks about current events to diverse socialisation evenings. This department broadened my horizons, as I have come both to relate with various student from my region, but also exchange experiences with others from completely different sociocultural backgrounds. SSEES has helped me transition from a lost human living abroad alone for the first time, to someone belonging to a diverse community centred around knowledge, friendship and openness.
