Why does semi-globalization persist?

In this seminar, Dr Sengupta discusses why semi-globalization as a strategy is persistent among MNEs and what drives their strategic choice of regions to operate in. The impact of downstream operations in supra-national regions on overall performance varies between host regions and is conditioned on the MNE’s origins simultaneously. MNEs originating in regions with relatively stronger institutions benefit more from operating in regions with weaker institutions and vice versa. The internationalization-performance (I-P) relationship is a complex multifaceted phenomenon at the regional level.

Dr Abhijit Sengupta is the Head of Department of Department of Business Transformation and an Associate Professor (Reader) in Business Analytics. He holds a PhD in Economics from Stony Brook University in New York, an MA in Economics from Jawaharlal Nehru University, India and a BSc in Economics from University of Calcutta, India. He specializes in the use of advanced quantitative methods, including econometrics, machine learning and agent based simulations, and has experience of research in both academic and industrial settings.
