The situation in Belarus shows no signs of calming down. In a follow up event to 'New wave of political repression in Belarus. What can the West do?', join Professor Andrew Wilson and PhD candidate Tadeusz Giczan as they discuss the events since the election.
In particular this seminar will turn SSEES's expertise to look at the reasons for the protests, the unprecedented crackdown, Russia's creeping, 'hybrid' interference, and the implications for Russia, Belarus's neighbours and the West. Finally asking, will Lukashenka survive? If so, on what terms?
Andrew Wilson is Professor of Ukrainian Studies at SSEES and the author of Belarus: The Last European Dictatorship (Yale University Press), a new edition of which will appear in 2021 to cover recent events. Tadeusz Giczan is doing his PhD on Belarusian politics at SSEES and has been a leading commentator on unfolding events on Twitter.
