In this seminar, I will introduce my thesis which is based on 14 months of fieldwork in a Naqshbandi Sufi lodge in Sarajevo. My thesis is framed by the anthropology of Islam. I analyse how Sufi practices, led by postwar charismatic religious entrepreneurs, compete for influencing the Islamic discursive tradition in the country. I look at what this means for Islam in Bosnia 30 years after the fall of Yugoslav Socialism and the still persistent intra-muslim war related divisions from the 1990s.

This event will be held via Zoom, registration is essential.
