This seminar explores Soviet fashions and film costumes through the looks of filmactresses on the screen and in their public life during the 1920s and 1930s.

It investigates how the different political and ideological circumstances of these two decades informed different styles in dress and looks, situating its discussion of Soviet film costumes within the context of sartorial cultures of the 1920s and 1930s, and taking into account the audiences who enjoyed these films.
