With declining population and fertility rates below replacement levels, Russia is currently facing a demographic crisis. Starting in 2007, the federal government has pursued an ambitious pro-natalist policy. Women who give birth to at least two children are entitled to ‘maternity capital’ assistance. Fabian Slonimczyk is Assistant Professor at the International College of Economics and Finance (ICEF) and Research Fellow at the Centre for Advanced Studies. His research interests include labour economics, economics of transition/economic development and applied econometrics. He extensively publishes in academic journals and his recent publications include papers in Journal of Economic Inequality, Journal of Economic Behavior and Organization and others.
