Students taking the Upper Intermediate Latvian course are expected to have worked their way through Colloquial Latvian (C. Moseley, Routledge 1996) and to have mastered the grammar, vocabulary and exercises contained in it.
Study materials: For the Upper Intermediate course, the material is supplied by the teacher. It consists of the following:
Material from the Latvian daily press on current Latvian themes, for translation and discussion (including exercises for homework)
Texts and exercises from the Palīgā! series of textbooks and workbooks, from the 3rd level onward (various authors, LVLA 2003) for class work and some homework;
Short introductory excerpts from Latvian prose fiction for translation and discussion.
In addition to this, time is set aside and materials are prepared on topics relevant to the student’s own interests. The student is expected to provide some guidance in selecting the relevant material.
