Economy, State and Society: Politics and Security MA Structure

Compulsory and elective modules for the IMESS: Politics and Security MA. One year is spent at UCL and the second year at an IMESS Partner Institution.

Country-specific course requirements

Students on ‘Politics and Security’ track in HSE, Moscow must take ONE of the following modules in their first year at UCL:

  • Qualitative Methods OR
  • Comparative Analysis in Social & Political Research OR
  • Understanding and Analysing Data

Students doing their year 2 in Krakow must take ‘European Civilisation’ and three further courses relating to the following six themes over the course of the two-year programme:

  • Collective Identities
  • Financial Structures
  • EU Law
  • EU Foreign Policy
  • Foreign Policy of Central and Eastern Europe 
  • Democracy
