The programme includes Sergei Prokofiev’s Violin Sonata No. 1 (1946) and Béla Bartók's "Contrasts" (1938) for violin, clarinet and piano.

The evening will start with a reception from 6:30pm followed by music from 7pm. The reception will continue after the concert.

Begun in 1938, two years after his return to the Soviet Union, Prokofiev's first violin sonata was premiered in 1946 by the great Russian virtuoso, David Oistrakh, who subsequently performed two of its movements at Prokofiev's funeral in 1953.

In “Contrasts”, commissioned by jazz clarinettist Benny Goodman, Bartók’s trio can be described as “a kind of deliciously filtered Hungarian jazz”.
