The Student Welcome and Induction team leads on the co-ordination of events, services and communications for new students of all study levels, at both East and Bloomsbury, across the academic year.
What we do
- Support and advise professional services and academic departments with their welcome and induction plans.
- Administer the Welcome Ambassador Scheme and the Transition Mentor Programme.
- Organise and manage the onboarding of new students, from visas and enrolment, to collecting UCL ID cards.
- Deliver centralised communications and events, both pre-arrival and on arrival.
How we work
The team has working groups with Faculty Welcome Leads and key stakeholders from professional services to continually improve, coordinate and evaluate the way student welcome and induction is delivered.
Meet the team
The team has 5 full-time members of staff, who have bespoke responsibilities.
Amy York
Head of Student Welcome and Induction
I oversee the strategic coordination and delivery of UCL’s Student Welcome and Induction, collaborating with stakeholders across professional services, the Students’ Union, and academic departments to ensure a coherent and high-quality student experience. This involves leading the direction of enrolment processes, induction events, new student services, and campus arrangements.

Candice Mooney
Student Welcome and Induction Manager
I lead the operational delivery of UCL's Student Welcome and Induction, overseeing the coordination of onboarding processes, enrolment communications, and on campus logistics during the welcome period. I work closely with SRS, ISD and other professional services staff to establish the systems requirements relating to onboarding and induction, ensuring they are student-focused and effectively support a clear and smooth onboarding experience.

Rebecca Kelly
Senior Student Welcome and Induction Officer
I look after the communications that go out to new students including the new student website, welcome email and social media. I also run central welcome events including The Students' Guide to UCL and Support Services Fair.

Mia Conolly
Senior Student Welcome and Induction Officer (International)
I run the pre-arrival webinars and International Week events, such as the Seminars, Q&As, and Mixers for our new International PG, UG, and Affiliate students. Additionally, I oversee our Welcome Ambassadors who work with our team during the welcome period.

Jordan Fakile
Senior Student Welcome and Induction Officer (Transition)
I lead the planning and delivery of the Transition Mentoring Programme. My role focuses on supporting new students by coordinating mentors, liaising with staff in academic departments, developing resources, and ensuring a smooth transition into university life.

Our Welcome Assistants
The team also has three full-time assistants between June and October, who support our busiest time for welcome planning and delivery.
Aarohini Ghosh

My role mainly involves supporting the planning and delivery of the Transition Mentoring Programme with Jordan. I'm also a recent UCL graduate.

Hannah Bushell
