Trialling termly results release on Portico
22 September 2025
This academic year, we will be trialling termly results release on Portico
Timely and accurate Mark Entry and Results Release administration processes are fundamental for Exam Boards to run and underpin our students’ progression and award outcomes. We are aware that these processes also carry huge administrative burden at key points in the year.
Last year, following cross-faculty and department consultation, we implemented a number of short-term improvements to support Mark Entry and Results Release processes (including new assessment grade codes, a new Module Student SoRA, DAPs and ECs Mitigation report, a new mark entry dashboard and mark entry view and report improvements).
This academic year, we will be trialling termly results release on Portico adding a new term 1 Mark Entry Deadline and Mark Publication date. There will be no additional term 2 Mark Entry Deadline / Mark Publication date for the first year although this may be something we introduce in future.
Developed in consultation with faculty representatives, we will trial this approach for 25/26 and will review outcomes with faculties to determine ongoing approach. (ARTs successfully trialled mark entry in this timeframe this year):
Mark Entry Deadline – term 1: from Weds 18 March 2026
Mark Publication term 1: from Weds 25 March 2026
Notes:
These dates are for students without extensions, faculties will manage the timeline for release of marks where ECs / DAPs / Reasonable Academic Adjustment extensions are applied.
Results released will be provisional and not fully ratified, no formal exam boards will be required.
Results will be shared with students on Portico and very clearly marked as “provisional”. We will work with departments, faculties and students to design what is provided to students and what they see.
We will design the system / process to make it as easy as possible to roll back / adjust marks if needed throughout the year.
This was an action agreed as part of our work to reduce the amount of errors that happen after results day.
