Policy updates – course & module approval and amendment
3 December 2025
Following conclusion of PEP2 and the introduction of CourseLoop, updates have been made to chapter 7b of the Academic Manual
Chapter 7b of the Academic Manual, setting out the governance processes for the approval and amendment of courses and modules, has been updated following the completion of PEP2 and the implementation of the new curriculum information management system, CourseLoop.
Information about the institutionally agreed Curriculum Design Principles, and their place within approval and amendment processes, are now embedded in the revised chapter.
As part of this work, we have taken the opportunity to holistically review the risks associated with course amendments to ensure that the most appropriate level of approval is required. Please check the new categories of amendment in the Academic Manual to ensure you are using the correct approach when making changes to your course in CourseLoop.
We have also clarified the circumstances where an amendment is significant enough to warrant the development of a new course, often because the original business case is impacted and FPPC re-consideration is required.
The revised chapter is available on the Academic Manual web pages, and APQS will be developing guidance materials to sit alongside the chapter to assist colleagues in the transition.
Consideration of risks associated with module level amendments is scheduled, and will be in place following data migration to CourseLoop as part of the next phase of PEP.
