Coming soon! Interruptions workflow for PGR students

10 December 2025

The Interruptions workflow will go live on Portico for PGR students in January 2026

In late January, the Interruptions and Return to Study process for PGR students will move to Portico, aligning it with the Withdrawals Portico workflow for PGR students.

This transfer from the existing paper-based process will better support the underlying regulations around interruption of study https://www.ucl.ac.uk/doctoral-school/interruption-study, as well as simplifying the process for both students and departmental staff.

The PGR workflow is based on the workflow for Taught students that was launched earlier this year, with adaptations where necessary to reflect PGR specific requirements.

Students will apply for an Interruption via their MyStudies page on Portico, and PGR administrators / DGT’s will review and action requests for students within their departments. System generated emails will be sent to staff and students throughout the process to keep them updated on key decisions / actions. This includes notifications to award services / funding teams, which will help bring together record management and funding streams, enabling compliance with UKRI terms and conditions. The online workflow will also facilitate better reporting functionality for various stakeholders within UCL.

Interruptions workflow briefing session for PGR staff

We will run an Interruptions workflow briefing session for PGR staff on Monday 12 January, 2-3pm. We will also record this session for staff who are unable to join. Please use the joining link below on the stated date / time:
