WISEflow New Marking Tool
19 August 2024
Get prepared for the new tool in 2024/25
Following major updates in May 2024, the new marking tool is now recommended for use in assessments being run on WISEflow (AssessmentUCL) in the 24-25 academic year.
The new marking tool will become the default setting on UCL's license in 2025, ahead of the planned deprecation of the current or legacy marking tool.
Learn more about the changes:
- Access our wiki guidance on the new marking tool
- A series of bite-sized tutorial videos will be made available at the end of August.
- Live (online) training sessions are being planned and will be announced in September.
Also known as the new marker journey, the new marking tool has been available on the platform and used by some departments since February 2023 and offers a number of improvements to the marker experience such as:
- The ability to view co-assessor feedback directly while marking (great for open marking!)
- More accurate submission word counts and improved annotations
- Support for file attachments in offline marking
Making the switch
Currently, the new marking tool can be selected on a flow-by-flow basis, but to ensure consistency for markers and students across a programme, we encourage programme and module leaders to discuss the change at programme level.
It's straightforward to opt in: programme administrators simply tick a box when setting up the assessments, and this is flexible to do up until just before the marking period starts. (Please note you cannot switch between new and legacy tool once the marking has commenced.)
