Updating Moodle and Student Handbooks

1 July 2021

Core Programme Information now available to update Moodle and student handbooks for next year

The Core Programme Information (CPI) standard text provides guidelines for departments when drafting student handbooks, Moodle sites etc.

Due to uncertainties arising from the Covid-19 pandemic, the CPI text has retained the flags for students under key sections, which direct them to the appropriate website for the most up-to-date information. We would advise that departments also consider disclaimers or links to departmental websites as appropriate when adding information which could be subject to change.

The key changes to the document for 2021-22 are as follows:

  • The Provost’s Office updated the welcome message from the new President and Provost, Dr Michael Spence (Section 1.1).
  • The text to inform students that there may be changes to information due to Covid-19 (Section 1.2), has been retained. Students are asked to check with their departments, personal tutor etc as necessary.
  • Amended text on Attendance Requirements (Section 5.3), noting the new RegisterUCL attendance system and that faculties will be setting their own minimum attendance requirement. Students are asked to familiarise themselves with their programme and module requirements and to note that they are responsible for ensuring their attendance is recorded. The text for Absence from teaching and learning for students with Student Visas has also been amended.
  • New and amended text added to Advice on choosing module options and electives (Section 9), including a new sub-section outlining the process for continuing students to choose their 2022-23 module options (Section 9.1.2) and amended guidance on module selection and verification deadlines (9.1.4).
  • Removal of duplicated information on changing modules (Section 10.11).
  • New text added to the Information on how Students Progress (Section 11.1) informing students that they should use the new Portico Progression and Award Rules Tool to find the information on how progression and award regulations work with their programme.
  • Removal of the Modern Foreign Language Requirement text (Section 11.2), in line with its suspension from the UCL academic regulations.
  • Amended text on Extenuating Circumstance (EC) and Reasonable Adjustments (Section 13), directing students to the students’ webpages for the latest information on how to apply for ECs and removal of the text outlining the process for applying.
  • Amended text on Library Services (Section 14.1.1) and the Centre for Languages and International Education (CLIE – 14.1.2), with a new section added on Sustainable UCL (14.1.4).
  • Amended text on the Students Enquiries Centre (Section 15.1.2) and askUCL.
  • New text added on Equity and Inclusion (Section 15.3).
  • New and amended text on Harassment and Bullying (Section 15.4).
  • Amended text throughout the Student Representation sections (Section 17).
  • New text added on ChangeMakers (Section 19), now including the former separate section on Student Quality Reviewers.
  • New text added on Health, Safety and Security (Section 21).

Versions:

Different versions are provided so that departments can create Online Handbooks/ Moodle Sites or Print/ PDF Handbooks.

For each, there is a ‘clean’ version, which can be used for new handbooks, and a ‘tracked’ version to help you amend existing handbooks. In the tracked versions new text is shaded yellow, deleted text is in strike-through and shaded grey.
