Extension to expected end dates for completing postgraduate taught students

7 October 2020

Arrangements to provide continued access to resources

Expected end dates for around 10,000 postgraduate taught students due to complete in September 2020 have been extended to 30 October 2020 owing to the impact of Covid-19 on assessment timelines. This action has been taken to ensure students continue to have access to the resources needed to complete their studies.

The following changes were also made to students’ Portico records on 23 September:

  • Enrolment status amended from “L” (Left) to “E” (Enrolled) for the duration of the extension.
  • Modes of attendance amended to FD*, PD* or BD* as appropriate so students are not charged further tuition fees.

Impact on Moodle

The change of enrolment status in Portico may have had an impact on enrolments in Moodle depending how the data has been mapped. Any Portico mappings that use either a Departmental Code or a Programme/Route Code will import these students onto current 2020/21 Moodle courses. Moodle courses that use module delivery codes will not be affected.

These additional students will remain part of the automated enrolment data set until their current extension expires (30th October). Once the Portico status changes to "LE", they will be un-enrolled overnight automatically from Moodle.

Candidate Numbers and Exam Boards

Postgraduates with this short extension will not be issued with a new candidate number for 2020. They should continue to use their 2019 candidate number for any remaining assessments and this number should be used at the upcoming postgraduate exam boards.

Longer Extensions

Student Records have posted guidance on Teams on how to process the students that require extensions beyond the 30th October.
