An update on the new Interruption of Study workflow
Note: the following article applies to Taught students only:
A new online workflow is being developed to support a new Interruption of Study procedure. Students will be able to request an interruption in Portico. The workflow will prompt actions between the student and the department as well as manage the approval process. The new online workflow is designed to deliver the following:
- Students should be able to request an interruption at any time via Portico.
- The process for interruption of study is clearer and easier for students and provides more support for students throughout the process.
- An inbuilt messaging service should minimise all potential barriers to students submitting a request when needed.
- Students should be able to see the current status of their request and have options to add further documentation, add additional information, or cancel the request.
- Most interruptions can be approved at department level.
- It is designed to update the student record when changes are approved.
- The new process is designed to better interact with the Extenuating Circumstances process.
Work is underway to test the new system before it is rolled out to students and staff.
A new set of regulations has been agreed and will come into force when the new workflow is ready. You can find the new procedures on the Academic Manual Recent Changes page, and further guidance for students and staff will be published soon.
Departments should continue to use the former regulations and application form until the new workflow is launched.
